Major General Abdulmalik Jibrin (Rtd.) has officially assumed office as the Secretary of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) following his appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The formal handover ceremony took place at the Board’s headquarters on Monday, where Jibrin succeeded his predecessor, Alhaji Ja’afaru Ahmed, a former Controller-General of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS).
In his remarks, the outgoing Secretary expressed his gratitude to President Tinubu for the opportunity to serve, albeit for a brief period. He acknowledged the leadership of the Minister of Interior and Chairman of the Board, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, under whom he was able to secure presidential approval for key reforms. Notably, these included granting the Board Secretariat autonomy in staff recruitment.
Ja’afaru urged the Board Secretariat staff to extend their full cooperation and support to the incoming Secretary to ensure continued institutional progress.
In his response, Major General Jibrin expressed his appreciation to Almighty Allah and President Tinubu for the privilege to serve in this capacity. He reaffirmed his commitment to building upon the reforms initiated by his predecessor and strengthening the Board’s operations.
Speaking on behalf of the Board staff, Comrade Gbadamasi Saheed, Chairman of the Board Union, commended the outgoing Secretary for his leadership and dedication. He also pledged the staff’s full support to the new Secretary to ensure a smooth and productive tenure.
