China reaffirms commitment to cultural exchange with Nigeria

The Director of the China Cultural Center in Nigeria (CCCN), Mr. Yang Jianxing, has reiterated China’s dedication to deepening cultural ties with Nigeria through initiatives like the annual China-Nigeria Culture Fiesta. Yang made these remarks at the 12th China-Nigeria Culture Fiesta 2024 Dance Competition, held in Abuja.

Organized in collaboration with the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Secondary Education Board (SEB), this year’s cultural festival aims to foster greater people-to-people understanding between the two nations. “Culture is the foundation of national development and a driver of social progress,” Yang stated, highlighting that both China and Nigeria have rich cultural histories that serve as a basis for strengthening their ties.

Yang emphasized the fiesta’s role in increasing awareness of Chinese culture in Nigeria and fostering friendship between the two countries. He noted the longstanding partnership between the Chinese Embassy, the Cultural Center, and FCT schools to organize the event annually, as part of a broader effort to promote cultural exchange.

Dr. Mohammed Ladan, Director of the FCT SEB, represented by Director of Co-curricular, Mrs. Fatima Babba, expressed gratitude to the Chinese Embassy for its continued support. “This event has provided our students a unique avenue to engage with Nigerian and Chinese art forms, particularly through dance, and win prizes that benefit our schools,” Ladan said, commending the decade-long collaboration.

Ladan also confirmed SEB’s commitment to furthering cultural exchanges, enhancing China-Nigeria relations that have thrived for over 51 years.
