Chukkol charges 332 newly-graduated cadets against corruption and indiscipline

In a stern admonition, the Acting-Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdulkarim Chukkol, has cautioned 332 freshly-graduated cadets of the Commission against engaging in acts of corruption and indiscipline. Chukkol delivered this charge during the Passing out Parade of the Detective Assistant Course 4 Officers on Friday, September 28, 2023, held at the Police Mobile Training College, Ende Hills, Akwanga, Nasarawa State.

Abdulkarim Chukkol, at the ceremony, emphasized the paramount importance of upholding the core values of integrity, courage, professionalism, and collaboration within the EFCC. He warned that any deviation from the established code of conduct would be met with severe sanctions. He urged the newly-minted cadets to remain resolute and dedicated to their chosen profession, underscoring that the fight against economic and financial crimes is a crucial national service that demands unwavering commitment.

Chukkol reviewed the comprehensive training the cadets underwent, which encompassed legal studies, financial studies, operational studies, and information and communication technology (ICT). He noted that they were also introduced to the Commission’s policies and operational manuals to guide their conduct both within and outside the organization.

The EFCC’s chief commended the Commission’s contributions to the nation, asserting that it has made a significant difference in improving Nigeria’s image and its economy. Chukkol revealed that the EFCC had secured an impressive 1,688 convictions between January and September, with more convictions expected as pending cases conclude in the courts. He added that the Commission’s investigative efforts had led to the recovery of assets valued at billions of Naira. In 2022, they achieved a remarkable milestone with 3,785 convictions, the highest by any law enforcement agency in Nigeria in a single year.

Chukkol emphasized the Commission’s commitment to its preventive mandate and announced the commencement of test transmission of its radio station, EFCC Radio 97.3. He described this initiative as a fresh opportunity for public engagement, seeking to enlist the public’s support in the ongoing fight against corruption.

During the event, Acting-Commandant of the EFCC, ACE1 Babashani Umar Sanda, encouraged the cadets to uphold the Commission’s values, while DCP Urutugu Ikioye, Commandant of the Police Mobile Training College, called for the continued collaboration between the EFCC and PMTC, particularly at the tactical level.

The ceremony also recognized outstanding cadets, with Henry Okolie receiving the Overall Best Cadet Award. Sambo Daniel Umoho, Olusegun Ibiloye, and Agu Chidera received the First Runner Up Award, Second Runner Up Award, and Award for Command and Leadership, respectively. The Marksman and Markswoman Awards were claimed by Sani Usman Mohammed and Idowu Maryam Bashir.

The EFCC continues to stand as a bulwark against corruption and economic crimes in Nigeria, with its leadership committed to maintaining the highest standards of integrity and professionalism within its ranks.
