In a bid to address allegations of substandard feeding for troops stationed at the frontline in the North East Theatre of operations, the Nigerian Army (NA) has taken swift action by launching an immediate investigation. This development underscores the NA’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of its personnel under the leadership of Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja.
According to Director, Army Public Relations Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, the CoAS Command Philosophy places a premium on “Sound Administration” and a highly motivated force, with troop welfare being a vital pillar of this strategy. Consequently, the Nigerian Army views these allegations with the utmost seriousness and has pledged to conduct a thorough investigation to uncover the truth behind the claims and the circumstances surrounding them.
He said the Nigerian Army has historically prioritized the well-being of its troops, including their nutritional needs. Rigorous quality control measures are in place to ensure that troops, particularly those serving on the frontline, receive adequate and balanced meals. While acknowledging that isolated incidents of lapses may occur, the Nigerian Army is fully committed to addressing them.
Nwachukwu said to ascertain the veracity of these allegations, an internal investigation has already been initiated. This inquiry will comprehensively assess the entire supply chain, food quality, and any contributing factors to the situation at hand.
He said the Nigerian Army is unequivocally dedicated to transparency and accountability and will not tolerate any form of negligence or misconduct. Should any culpability be established, it will be met with appropriate disciplinary action, and immediate corrective measures will be implemented to prevent future occurrences.
Nwachukwu urges Nigerian Army personnel to report any grievances or concerns related to their feeding arrangements through established feedback channels. Timely action will be taken to address legitimate complaints and ensure troop satisfaction.
