CoAS says Nigerian Army adopting emerging technologies for operational efficiency

Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff (CoAS), has emphasized the importance of consistently incorporating emerging technologies to enhance operational efficiency within the Nigerian Army (NA). Speaking on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at the Army Headquarters, the CoAS highlighted this during a presentation titled “Emerging Technologies and Operational Efficiency: Implications for the Nigerian Army by 2035.” The presentation was delivered by participants from the National Defence College (NDC) Course 31.

The CoAS commended the participants for their thorough research, noting that their paper presentation would rejuvenate awareness about the significance of emerging technologies for operational efficiency. He revealed that the Nigerian Army is actively embracing emerging technologies across its institutions and establishments, affirming the NA’s commitment to ongoing development aligned with its internal and external dynamics.

Utilizing emerging technologies, as the CoAS affirmed, has bolstered the Nigerian Army’s surveillance capabilities, communication effectiveness, data management efficiency, situational awareness, and strategic decision-making prowess.

Rear Admiral Olumuyiwa Olotu, the Commandant of the National Defence College, underscored how the presentation unveiled the substantial potential of emerging technologies to substantially influence the current and future operational engagements of the NA. He stressed the importance of the NA continually adopting and integrating evolving innovations to remain competitive in operational scenarios. Rear Admiral Olotu also emphasized the NA’s role in driving technological advancements while consistently providing emerging technologies to enhance decision-making processes for operational efficiency.

The event concluded with the formal presentation of a hard copy of the research paper to the CoAS.
