General Lagbaja made this appeal on Sunday, June 30, 2024, during an interdenominational church service held in commemoration of Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) 2024 at the All Saints’ Military Church (Protestant), Army Headquarters Garrison, Mogadishu Cantonment, Abuja.
According to Director Army Public Relations Major GeneralOnyema Nwachukwu, in his goodwill message, General Lagbaja also urged troops to pray for the speedy recovery of personnel who sustained injuries in the line of duty, acknowledging their sacrifices in defending the nation’s territorial integrity. He highlighted this year’s NADCEL theme, “Transforming the Nigerian Army: Imperative for Combating Contemporary Security Challenges within a Joint Environment,” as a reflection of the Army’s role in promoting national unity and development.

General Lagbaja emphasized the Army’s global reputation, its focus on victory, and its recognition of the spiritual component of fighting power, encapsulated by its motto: “Victory is from God Alone.”
Commending the troops for their dedication and operational effectiveness, the COAS encouraged them to uphold high standards of service and discipline, contributing to a successful NADCEL 2024 celebration.
He expressed gratitude to President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his steadfast support of the Nigerian Army and pledged the unwavering loyalty of its officers and soldiers to the Constitution, Government, and people of Nigeria. He also thanked the National Assembly, Ministers of Defence, Chief of Defence Staff, fellow Service Chiefs, and heads of other security agencies for their guidance and collaboration.
The interdenominational church service was attended by senior military officers, the National President of the Nigerian Army Officers Wives’ Association Mrs. Mariya Lagbaja, members of the Association, serving and retired officers, their families, and other well-wishers. The event’s highlight was the NADCEL 2024 Special Thanksgiving.
