Court admits more evidence in $6bn Mambilla fraud case against ex-minister

Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie of the Federal High Court, Apo, Abuja, on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, admitted additional evidence presented by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in the ongoing trial of former Minister of Power and Steel, Olu Agunloye.

Agunloye is standing trial on a seven-count charge bordering on official corruption and the fraudulent award of the $6 billion Mambilla Hydroelectric Power Project contract to Sunrise Power and Transmission Company Limited.

The newly admitted exhibits include an EFCC investigation report on the Mambilla Project and a warrant of arrest for one Jide Sotinri. The documents were marked as Exhibits EFCC R and S.

During the proceedings, Agunloye’s counsel, Adeola Adedikpe, SAN, filed an application seeking the release of the defendant’s passport to enable him to travel abroad for medical evaluation.

Prosecution counsel, M.K. Hussain, requested time to review the application and file a formal response.

Justice Onwuegbuzie adjourned the matter to Thursday, July 17, 2025, for hearing on the passport release application.
