Cuba has strongly condemned what it described as a military attack by the United States against Venezuela, accusing Washington of violating international law and threatening peace and stability in the Latin American and Caribbean region.
In an official statement issued in Havana on Saturday, the Cuban Revolutionary Government declared its full solidarity with Venezuela and its leadership, endorsing calls by the Venezuelan authorities for proof of life of President Nicolás Maduro and First Lady Cilia Flores. Cuba also demanded their immediate release, alleging that both were being held by U.S. authorities.
Havana characterised the reported operation as a “cowardly and criminal act,” accusing the United States of escalating a prolonged campaign of political, economic and military pressure against Venezuela. According to the statement, U.S. actions in the Caribbean had intensified since September 2025, including increased naval deployments justified by what Cuba described as unfounded allegations.
The Cuban government alleged that the purported aggression was driven by imperial ambitions, aimed at asserting dominance over Latin America and securing access to Venezuela’s natural resources. It warned that the action was intended not only to undermine Venezuela’s sovereignty but also to intimidate other governments across the region.
Cuba further said it would hold the U.S. administration responsible for any loss of life or material damage arising from the situation, naming President Donald Trump and senior officials as accountable for what it described as reckless conduct.
Referencing the 2014 Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace, signed in Havana by regional governments, Cuba said the alleged developments amounted to a direct challenge to that collective commitment.
The statement called on the international community to reject what it termed an unlawful act against a United Nations member state, warning that failure to respond would set a dangerous precedent. Cuba stressed that Venezuela had neither attacked the United States nor posed any military threat to it.
Reaffirming its close alliance with Caracas, Cuba pledged continued support for Venezuela in the defence of its independence and sovereignty, while urging governments, parliaments and social movements worldwide to condemn the alleged aggression.
