Cuba’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Bruno Eduardo Rodríguez Parrilla, is in Nigeria on an official visit to explore opportunities for strengthening bilateral ties in healthcare, education, agriculture, science and technology, and cultural exchange.
In a statement on Sunday, the Acting Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, said: “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomes His Excellency, Mr. Bruno Eduardo Rodríguez Parrilla, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba, on his official visit to Nigeria. This visit underscores the strong and cordial bilateral relations between Nigeria and Cuba, nurtured over decades of mutual respect, solidarity, and cooperation.”
The statement highlighted the historic role both countries played in the abolition of apartheid, supporting liberation movements, and advancing independence for African nations as key pillars of their relationship.
During the visit, Mr. Parrilla will hold a bilateral meeting with Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, to discuss enhancing cooperation in strategic areas and strengthening multilateral collaboration to address global challenges and promote sustainable development.
Mr. Parrilla is also scheduled to meet with Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima to deliver a special message from the Cuban government and engage in high-level discussions with Senate President Senator Godswill Akpabio.
As members of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and the Group of 77 plus China, Nigeria and Cuba share common positions on global peace, security, and sustainable development. The visit marks a significant step in reinforcing Nigeria-Cuba relations and advancing shared interests in global affairs.
