The Ambassador of Denmark to Nigeria, His Excellency Sune Krogstrup, recently engaged in a productive discussion with the Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola CON, to explore avenues for enhancing the collaboration between Nigeria and Denmark in the maritime sector.
Accompanied by the Embassy’s Senior Programme Manager, Florence Fowoke Iseko, Ambassador Krogstrup highlighted Denmark’s significant role in the maritime industry, emphasizing the country’s ownership of some of the largest ships and the global prominence of APM, a Danish conglomerate renowned for its operation of major ports worldwide. He expressed Denmark’s readiness to collaborate with Nigeria’s newly established Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy to enable the nation to harness the full benefits of its establishment.
In response, Minister Adegboyega Oyetola, who warmly welcomed the Danish delegation, acknowledged Denmark’s exceptional achievements in the maritime sector, where it accounts for over 25 percent of the nation’s total exports of goods and services. Minister Oyetola expressed his enthusiasm for exploring opportunities for cooperation with the Danish government to bolster Nigeria’s Marine and Blue Economy sector. Such collaboration, he noted, has the potential to significantly increase the sector’s contribution to Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), foster job creation, and alleviate poverty.
Minister Oyetola further emphasized the ministry’s open stance toward partnerships and collaborations that facilitate economic growth and development within Nigeria. The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both parties committed to further discussions and actions aimed at realizing the shared goal of promoting a thriving Blue Economy in Nigeria.
