In honor of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, Daurama Foundation will premiere Voices Within, a stirring short film that confronts domestic and gender-based violence. Directed by Bem Pever and produced by Take 7 Media, with screenplay contributions from Mahdi Eldaw and Emil Garuba, Voices Within is set to debut at Silverbird Cinema, Jabi Lake Mall, Abuja, on November 30, 2024, at 4:00 pm.
The film follows a young girl who witnesses the harrowing cycles of abuse in her home and finds solace in writing. Through her storytelling, she processes her pain and discovers resilience while sharing the silent suffering of her mother, a survivor limited by a childhood disability. Voices Within amplifies the often-muted experiences of abuse survivors, urging viewers to stand against violence.
The film features notable Nigerian actors, including Grace Daudu, Mbasity Jesse, Tolu Asanu, Franca Igwe, Lanzy Janpak, Hoomsuk Alex Jibrin, Austin Mangs, and Senenge Abela. Dr. Samira Buhari, Executive Producer and Chair of Daurama Foundation, highlighted that Voices Within reflects the Foundation’s mission to empower women and foster communities that reject violence.
Daurama Foundation, a Nigerian NGO, is dedicated to health advocacy and women’s rights through education, outreach, and community engagement. They focus on issues affecting women and girls, providing resources to combat domestic violence and support survivors.
