The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has authorized the immediate disbursement of relief funds to the families of officers involved in a fatal motor accident on September 24, 2024. The officers, returning from Edo Elections Special Duty to Kano State Command, were involved in the tragic incident along the Zaria-Kano Expressway, Karfi Kura.
Five officers lost their lives, while 11 others sustained injuries, eight of whom have since been discharged. Three remain under medical care.
In a statement by Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IGP announced that N10 million will be allocated to the families of the deceased officers. Additionally, N2 million will go towards the treatment of those still hospitalized, and N500,000 will be given to those already discharged.
The IGP expressed his deepest condolences and reaffirmed the police force’s commitment to supporting its officers and their families during difficult times.
