The Edo State Security Corps (ESSC) has arrested 18 suspected kidnappers and armed robbers along the Benin-Auchi axis, recovering 38 locally made guns, pellets, and various charms during the operation.
ESSC Commandant, Commissioner Friday Ibadin (Rtd), disclosed this in a statement on Friday, noting that the arrests were made during a bush-combing exercise near Eguedion Camp, close to an army checkpoint.
According to Ibadin, 17 of the 18 suspects are non-indigenes. He assured Edo residents of the government’s commitment to security, particularly during the farming season, and pledged continued efforts to rid the state of criminal elements.
“While on patrol along Benin-Auchi Road, our operatives spotted two individuals armed with guns. Upon sighting our team, they fled, leading us to a camp where 18 suspects were apprehended,” Ibadin said.
He further revealed that 38 fully loaded locally made firearms and charms were seized, emphasizing the Corps’ ongoing efforts to secure the state’s forests. The suspects have been handed over to the Divisional Police Officer of Agbede Police Station for further investigation.
Ibadin also called for stronger collaboration between security agencies to combat crime effectively. The arrests follow Governor Monday Okpebholo’s recent directive for security agencies to intensify efforts in flushing out criminals and ensuring the safety of farmers and residents in Edo State.
