The Special Security Squad of Edo State, codenamed Operation Flush Out Kidnappers and Cultists, has arrested several notorious cult leaders and members in a series of coordinated raids across Benin City, with major recoveries of arms and ammunition.
In a statement Chief Press Secretary to Governor Monday Okpebholo Edo State Fred Itua said the latest operation, conducted on Friday evening, July 18, 2025, targeted hideouts in Iguedaiyi village and Evboutubu area of Egor Local Government. A suspected cult leader was apprehended and a cache of weapons recovered from his residence. Intelligence provided by two earlier suspects led to the discovery of additional cultist hideouts and the seizure of dangerous items.
The special squad was established by Governor Monday Okpebholo as part of a renewed effort to rid the state of violent crime. It comprises personnel from the Nigerian Army, Police, NSCDC, local vigilantes, hunters, and reformed cultists, working collaboratively to secure communities across Edo State.
Speaking after the successful operation, team member Ameloemen Idemudia Noah affirmed the squad’s commitment to professionalism, intelligence-led operations, and community engagement. He dismissed claims of political interference, emphasizing that the mission is solely focused on public safety.
“Our mandate is clear—flush out kidnappers and cultists,” Noah stated. “These efforts are driven by credible intelligence, and the success of today’s raid underscores the commitment of the Okpebholo-led administration to restore peace and order in Edo State.”
He also assured that all suspects arrested will be handed over to appropriate law enforcement agencies for further investigation and prosecution.
