The Ilorin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has conducted a successful operation resulting in the arrest of 48 individuals suspected of engaging in internet fraud, alongside a herbalist, in Lokoja, the capital city of Kogi State.
These arrests, made on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, were facilitated by credible intelligence gathered by the EFCC. The suspects were apprehended at various locations within Lokoja. Of particular note is the apprehension of a herbalist, believed to be a spiritual mentor to the internet fraudsters, who was found in possession of various charms.
Upon thorough investigation, law enforcement officials recovered a significant array of items from the suspects. These included 10 high-end vehicles, two motorcycles, 11 laptops, 83 mobile phones, and an assortment of charms.
All suspects, identified as male and ranging in age from 17 to 34 years old, are currently undergoing further scrutiny as investigations continue. Once investigations are concluded, they will be arraigned in court to face charges related to conspiracy and obtaining goods or money under false pretenses.
