EFCC apprehends two alleged internet fraudsters at Musician’s Residence

In a significant development, the Lagos Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) apprehended two individuals suspected of involvement in internet fraud on Tuesday, October 10, 2023. The operation led to the arrest of Udemba Chukwuemeka, commonly known as “Jody,” and Jamal Jamiu Onasola, alias “Jamal,” at House F10, Victoria Crest 4, Lekki, Lagos.

What sets this operation apart is the location of the arrest, as the suspects were taken into custody at the residence of popular musician John Njeng Njeng, better known as “Skales.” The suspects have reportedly identified Njeng as their “mentor” in their alleged illicit activities.

Chukwuemeka, who has gone by the alias “Jody,” has been residing within Njeng’s premises for a duration spanning two years. In contrast, Onasola, also known as “Jamal,” has had a relatively shorter stay at the musician’s residence, measuring only a few months.

The individuals in question are under suspicion for their alleged involvement in dating scams, a fraudulent activity that has gained notoriety in recent times. The EFCC has initiated a thorough investigation into their alleged crimes to gather concrete evidence and ascertain the extent of their activities. Once the investigation is concluded, the suspects will face legal proceedings, and appropriate charges will be filed against them.

The EFCC remains committed to its mandate of combating financial crimes and fraudulent activities, and this operation marks another significant step in its ongoing efforts to ensure that justice is served in cases of internet fraud and related offenses. Further developments in this case will be reported as they unfold.
