EFCC arrests 93 suspects over alleged internet fraud in Abeokuta

The Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested ninety-three (93) suspected internet fraudsters in Abeokuta, Ogun State, in one of the agency’s largest single-day operations in recent months.

The coordinated sting operation was carried out in the early hours of Sunday, August 10, 2025, following weeks of discreet surveillance and credible intelligence linking the suspects to a network of cybercrime activities. According to EFCC officials, the intelligence gathered indicated that the suspects had been involved in various fraudulent online schemes, including phishing, identity theft, and other internet-based scams targeting both local and international victims.

During the operation, EFCC operatives recovered eighteen (18) vehicles, an assortment of high-end mobile devices, and other digital tools believed to have been used in the commission of the alleged crimes. Preliminary analysis of the seized devices is already underway to uncover further evidence and identify possible accomplices.

The suspects are currently being held at the EFCC’s custody in Lagos and are undergoing interrogation. The Commission has assured the public that they will be arraigned in court as soon as investigations are concluded, in line with its commitment to tackling economic and financial crimes and bringing perpetrators to justice.

The EFCC reiterated its warning to individuals engaged in cybercrime, noting that its operatives remain vigilant and will continue to track, arrest, and prosecute offenders across the country.
