Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested a 24-year-old man, Iziga Jude Ikechukwu, also known as “Easy-money,” for allegedly abusing the Nigerian currency during his birthday celebration in Enugu State.
The arrest was carried out by officers of the EFCC’s Enugu Zonal Directorate following intelligence obtained from a viral video circulating on social media. In the footage, Ikechukwu—described as a palm kernel dealer—was reportedly seen recording himself while mishandling and mutilating naira notes in a hotel room during his birthday party.
The alleged act violates Section 21 of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act 2007, which prohibits the abuse and mutilation of the national currency.
According to the commission, preliminary investigations were immediately launched after the video surfaced online. The probe led to the identification of the suspect and his residence around the Timber Market area in Enugu-Ezike.
EFCC operatives subsequently arrested the suspect at the location on February 28, 2026.
During the operation, the commission said it recovered N81,700 believed to be part of the money allegedly mutilated in the video.
The anti-graft agency stated that the suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of ongoing investigations.
