Troops conducting clearance operations under Operation Eastern Sanity have overrun another stronghold of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), as security forces intensify operations across parts of southeastern Nigeria.
Military authorities said the offensive, supported by other security agencies and close air support from the Nigerian Air Force, is aimed at dismantling insurgent camps and restoring security in affected communities.
According to the update, troops on March 3, 2026 advanced on Camp Gbadoanya located in Orsumoghu, Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State. The joint forces carried out coordinated clearance operations targeting suspected IPOB/ESN fighters operating in the camp and surrounding areas.
During the raid, several insurgent camps were located, thoroughly searched and destroyed. Security forces recovered a range of weapons and materials including pump-action guns, locally fabricated Dane guns, rifle magazines, assorted rifle components, belts of ammunition and cutting machines.
Other items recovered included Biafran currencies, materials suspected to be used for the production of improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and musical instruments believed to belong to a Biafran Army band.
Troops also recovered Biafran flags and a flag identified as belonging to a Biafran Army headquarters. The flags were subsequently destroyed, while the Nigerian flag was raised in the cleared camp.

In a follow-up operation on March 4, troops continued the offensive and destroyed additional camps within the Gbadoanya area. During the operation, soldiers discovered and dismantled a suspected IED fabrication site.
The facility was carefully searched and destroyed after troops recovered several items believed to be used in the production of explosive devices. These included welding machines, drilling machines, filling machines, car batteries, an electrode welding handle, and locally fabricated firearms and rifle components.
Military authorities said the ongoing operations in Anambra State and Imo State form part of broader efforts to dismantle militant infrastructure and restore lasting peace and security across the region.
