The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a self-acclaimed spiritualist, Odigie Moses, in Ekpoma, Edo State, over an alleged sextortion scheme involving an Indian woman.
Moses was arrested following allegations that he exploited a woman seeking spiritual intervention for personal challenges and subsequently extorted $1,100 from her.
According to the EFCC, the suspect allegedly misrepresented himself on Zelle as possessing spiritual healing powers, attracting the victim, who reportedly contacted him for assistance with what she described as life-threatening challenges.
The suspect allegedly persuaded the woman to undergo a nude spiritual bath, which he secretly recorded without her consent. He subsequently used the recording to allegedly blackmail her, demanding money and threatening to release the video publicly if she failed to comply.
EFCC investigations reportedly established that the victim paid $1,100 to the suspect in an attempt to prevent the alleged intimate recording from being circulated.
The anti-graft agency said Moses would be prosecuted upon the conclusion of investigations.
The arrest underscores growing concerns over the exploitation of vulnerable individuals through fraudulent spiritual claims and the use of private images or recordings for extortion.
