The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen their collaboration in a concerted effort to combat corruption and enhance road safety in Nigeria.

This significant development unfolded during a pivotal meeting held at the EFCC’s Office in GRA, Ilorin, on Thursday, September 21, 2023. The meeting saw the Commander of the Ilorin Zonal Command of the EFCC, Michael Nzekwe, hosting the Sector Commander of the FRSC, RS8.1 Kwara Command, Fredrick Ade Ogidan.

Addressing the purpose behind their rendezvous, Sector Commander Ogidan emphasized the imperative of government agencies working in tandem to foster a better Nigeria for all citizens. He specifically underscored the necessity of collaboration between the EFCC and FRSC, given their shared responsibility of restoring integrity through anti-corruption measures and ensuring safety on the nation’s roads.

He unequivocally pointed out that one of the foremost challenges facing Nigeria is corruption, and he made it clear that anyone not supporting the EFCC’s endeavors to eradicate corruption is acting against the best interests of the nation.

In a show of mutual appreciation, Sector Commander Ogidan commended the Ilorin Zonal Command of the EFCC for their commitment to adhering to safety rules and regulations. He praised their initiative in seeking the FRSC’s guidance in training their officers on fundamental safety guidelines for highways and assured them of the FRSC’s continued support in other areas of need.

Responding to the commendation, Nzekwe, the EFCC’s Ilorin Zonal Commander, expressed his gratitude to the FRSC for their unwavering support. He acknowledged the pivotal role played by the Federal Road Safety Corps in the fight against corruption, particularly highlighting their valuable records concerning Nigerian citizens, vehicle registration, and driver’s license issuance—information that proves invaluable during investigations.

Nzekwe urged the FRSC to maintain their support for the EFCC, especially in the crucial domain of intelligence sharing. He emphasized the importance of this collaboration as a means to ensure the success of their collective mission.
