Operatives from the Lagos Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have apprehended thirteen individuals for operating as fake bureau de change (BDC) operators without appropriate licenses.
The suspects, identified as Abdulahi Musa, Garba Abdullahi, Dauda Hussaini, Jubril Musa, Abdulwaheed Iliyasu, Abubakar Mohammed, Umar Saidu, Nurudeen AbdulAzeez, Hamidu Usman, Yusuf Isa, Musa Ishaka, Liman Makki, and Idris Mohammed, were arrested during sting operations conducted between May 10 and 13, 2024, across various locations in Lagos. The arrests followed credible intelligence received by the EFCC about their illicit activities.
Additionally, Kafayat Lateef was arrested for alleged involvement in currency racketeering, with N2,100,000 (Two Million, One Hundred Thousand Naira) recovered from her at the time of arrest.
The EFCC has announced that the suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
