EFCC, NISER forge stronger partnership to combat corruption

The Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of Social and Economic Research (NISER), Professor Anthonia Taiye Simbine, has reaffirmed her commitment to supporting the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in their efforts to combat economic and financial crimes. During a courtesy visit on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, to the Ibadan Acting Zonal Director of the EFCC, Assistant Commander Hauwa Garba Ringim, Professor Simbine emphasized the importance of continued collaboration between the two organizations.

While congratulating Ringim on her recent appointment, Professor Simbine assured her that NISER would continue to provide robust support for the EFCC’s mandate. “NISER has been supportive of the EFCC’s mission, and under my leadership, we will maintain our commitment to extending support to the EFCC,” she stated.

Professor Simbine highlighted the necessity for deliberate and consistent collaboration, stressing the importance of addressing fundamental issues that advance the missions of both organizations. “As government agencies, we must establish a healthy working relationship with relevant stakeholders. My visit here underscores our commitment to this cause,” she added.

Recognizing the EFCC’s need for broad-based support in tackling corruption, especially cybercrime, Professor Simbine expressed NISER’s willingness to contribute significantly to this effort in the Southwest and across Nigeria. She also mentioned that NISER’s Social Policy Department is conducting critical research on engaging Nigerian youths developmentally, beginning with ethical reorientation.

Furthermore, Professor Simbine proposed periodical training and re-training of EFCC professionals using NISER’s facilities, given the Institute’s mandate to conduct research on social and economic issues for various stakeholders.

In response, Acting Zonal Director Ringim expressed her gratitude for the visit and her commitment to collaborating with NISER. “Thank you for recognizing the necessity of strengthening ties between the EFCC and NISER. Our collaboration is essential for achieving our mandates and contributing to Nigeria’s economic growth,” she said. Ringim affirmed that the EFCC is open to constructive criticism and is eager to work with NISER to fulfill the Federal Government’s strategic plan for a greater Nigeria.
