In a move aimed at strengthening the intellectual capabilities of its workforce and promoting distance learning, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has inaugurated a state-of-the-art electronic learning management studio at its Academy in Karu, Abuja.
The launch, which marked the conclusion of the three-day 6th Annual General Meeting of the Network of National Anti-Corruption Institutions of West Africa (NACIWA), took place on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, drawing notable anti-corruption experts from across West Africa.
Speaking at the event, EFCC Chairman and NACIWA President, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, emphasized the Commission’s commitment to leveraging technology in the fight against economic and financial crimes. “As we advance in our strategies, so too must our methods evolve,” Olukoyede remarked. He highlighted that the new e-learning studio would significantly enhance staff productivity and capacity building, aligning with the EFCC’s technology-driven mandate.
The Commandant of the EFCC Academy, Mrs. Chinwe Ndubeze, noted that the Academy, which serves as the designated training center for NACIWA, is at the forefront of digital education. “This e-learning system is a testament to our commitment to innovation and inclusivity in training,” she said, underscoring the Academy’s leadership in modernizing anti-corruption training.
Aliyu Abubakar Wali, Head of the External Cooperation Unit at the EFCC, expressed that the Learning Management System (LMS) would unlock vast opportunities for growth, learning, and collaboration among EFCC officers and stakeholders. He reflected on the platform’s origins during the COVID-19 pandemic, when it became essential to maintain continuous professional development despite global disruptions.
Chino Obiagwu, SAN, National Coordinator of the Legal Defense and Assistance Project (LEDAP), lauded the EFCC’s efforts, describing the e-learning studio as a versatile tool that allows users to learn conveniently from any location. The event also saw participation from key representatives of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), MacArthur Foundation, ECOWAS, and USAID.
Following the studio’s commissioning, EFCC Chairman Olukoyede led a facility tour of the property recently donated to NACIWA by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, further cementing the collaborative spirit between the Commission and its regional partners.
