Eight arrested as police quell revenue agents–riders clash in Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested eight suspects following a clash between revenue collection agents and commercial motorcycle riders in Bauchi metropolis, restoring normalcy to the affected areas.

According to police sources, the incident occurred on January 24, 2026, at about 2:27 p.m., when a commercial motorcyclist, Ayuba Abdullahi, was allegedly attacked by revenue agents near Wunti Gate, behind the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium, for refusing to submit to multiple tax collections. The rider sustained injuries in the attack.

The incident sparked protests by fellow motorcycle riders, who converged at their union office in Muda Lawal, disrupting activities in the area.

A joint police team drawn from A, B and C Divisional Police Headquarters, Operation Restore Peace, and the Rapid Response Squad was immediately deployed to the scene. The operatives engaged the protesters, restored calm, and dispersed the crowd.

Four suspects were arrested for their alleged direct involvement in the unrest. They were identified as Naziru Yakubu (Railway), Tanimu Shuaibu (Jahun), Danjuma Abdul (Miri), and Muktar Sale (Kobi).

In a related development, four additional suspects were arrested for allegedly vandalising the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) at Gombe Road and the Bauchi State Road Transport Agency (BAROTA) building during the disturbance.

Police authorities confirmed that the injured motorcyclist is receiving medical treatment and is expected to be discharged soon.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, commended the оперативes involved in the swift response and thanked the Bauchi State Joint Motorcycle and Tricycle Riders’ Association, as well as members of the public, for their cooperation. He assured residents that the situation has been brought under control and urged them to resume normal activities.
