Police intercept armed gang, bust drug syndicate in Delta

The Delta State Police Command has recorded major operational successes in its ongoing crackdown on crime, arresting 12 suspects and recovering dangerous weapons and illicit drugs in two separate intelligence-led operations across the state.

Confirming the report, Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Command, Asaba SP. Bright Edafe said in the first operation, operatives of the Command’s Buffalo Patrol Team, on routine stop-and-search duty on January 22, 2026, intercepted a green Toyota Sienna at the Head Bridge boundary between Anambra and Delta states. The vehicle, which was travelling into Delta State from Anambra, was occupied by six persons dressed in mufti.

Although the occupants claimed they were in the state to welcome a visiting religious leader, a thorough search of the vehicle uncovered a cache of concealed weapons. Items recovered included three pump-action guns, one locally fabricated dane gun, a battle axe, and 26 live cartridges.

Those arrested in the operation were identified as Nwanlioba Ikechukwu Dominic (62), Agbata Mathew (35), Osita Chineye (39), Favour Peterson (23), Prince Tochukwu (32), and Clement Nwakwa (51). The suspects have been taken into custody, while investigations continue to determine the source and intended use of the weapons.

In a related development, the Police also dismantled a drug distribution network operating in Ugborikoko community. The operation, carried out on January 20, 2026, by operatives of the Ugborikoko Division under the supervision of the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Setemi Agbede-Zoukumor, followed credible and actionable intelligence.

A suspected drug dealer was initially arrested during the raid and subsequently provided information that led to the arrest of six other suspected members of the syndicate. Those arrested were identified as Daniel Ojukwu, Rose Otofi, Osaro Okosu, Maro Ibecham, Fregene Victory, and Kevwe Irimoni.

Searches conducted at their residences led to the recovery of large quantities of hard drugs and related paraphernalia, including 52 packs of GM Gold Indian hemp, one pack of Canadian loud, 40 packs of Kolorado, 16 sachets of Swinol, 30 tablets of Tramadol, 52 packs of loud, and two crushers allegedly used for processing the drugs.

The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Aina Adesola, reaffirmed the Command’s resolve to dismantle criminal networks and sustain proactive, intelligence-driven policing to protect lives and property across the state. He also urged residents to remain law-abiding and to continue providing timely and credible information to the Police, assuring that all tips would be treated with strict confidentiality.
