The Emir of Lafiya, His Royal Highness Hon. Justice Sidi Muhammad Bage I (Rtd.), has lauded Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, describing him as a leader who “stands tall among his peers” in Nigeria.
The Emir gave the commendation on Wednesday during a courtesy visit to Governor Zulum at the Government House in Maiduguri. He led a delegation from the University of Maiduguri, where he serves as Pro Chancellor, to brief the governor on preparations for the institution’s 25th combined convocation and 50th anniversary celebration.
Expressing admiration for Zulum’s leadership, the Emir said the governor has demonstrated strength, wisdom, and exceptional commitment in discharging his duties. “Allah has given you the ability, the wisdom and the health to carry out this enormous responsibility,” he said.
Bage, who also chaired the national honours committee under the former administration, revealed that Zulum’s national honour was unanimously recommended by the committee despite no formal nomination from Borno State. “It was the unanimous decision of the committee that the best governor in Nigeria should be recommended for the honour,” he stated, adding that the then-President approved the recommendation immediately.
“We thank Allah for making you an achiever,” the Emir said.
Responding, Governor Zulum expressed appreciation for the Emir’s recognition and pledged continued support for the University of Maiduguri. He affirmed the state government’s commitment to ensuring the success of the upcoming convocation and anniversary events.
“Most of us here are products of the University of Maiduguri. Supporting the university is not a choice—it is an obligation,” Zulum said.
The Emir’s delegation included the Vice Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri, Professor Mohammed Mele, two Deputy Vice Chancellors, principal officers, and members of the governing council.
