The Federal Government has underscored the necessity for substantial financial resources to effectively address the myriad environmental challenges confronting the nation.
Mr. Mahmud Kambari, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Environment, delivered this statement during the Technical Session of the 17th meeting of the National Council on Environment held on Monday.
He emphasized, “One of the paramount challenges facing our sector pertains to funding. Despite the indisputable importance of environmental preservation for human well-being, successive administrations have encountered difficulties in allocating resources commensurate with the magnitude and immediacy of environmental challenges.”
Kambari further advocated for focused attention on the critical issue of financing, with the objective of formulating robust funding frameworks and exploring diverse avenues for resource mobilization to effectively address sectoral needs.
Underlining the relevance of the theme “Environment Financing: Need to mobilize more financial inflows for generating adequate resources in support of environmental sustainability efforts,” Kambari stressed its alignment with the priorities of the current administration. He affirmed its consistency with the commitment to harnessing energy and natural resources for sustainable development, as delineated in the Presidential Priorities within the framework of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Kambari urged stakeholders to embark on a collaborative and innovative journey dedicated to safeguarding the environment for future generations.
