The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has cautioned members of the public, particularly those participating in the planned Free Nnamdi Kanu protest, to stay clear of all correctional facilities across the country.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the NCoS Public Relations Officer, Umar Abubakar, announced that all correctional centres nationwide have been designated as Red Zones, warning that unauthorized persons found near such areas will face consequences.
“In light of the planned nationwide protest scheduled for Monday, October 20, 2025, calling for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the public is hereby informed that all correctional centres are declared as Red Zones,” the statement read.
Abubakar stressed that correctional centres remain restricted areas, adding that only individuals with official duties are permitted access. He urged citizens to respect the boundaries of these facilities to prevent any form of disturbance or security breach.
“The Service urges all citizens to exercise caution and cooperate with security agencies to ensure a peaceful and safe environment for everyone. It is equally important to respect restricted areas such as correctional facilities,” he stated.
The NCoS further reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining law and order within and around its facilities across the country.
