In anticipation of the verdict from the Zamfara state governorship election petition tribunal today, Brigadier General Sani Ahmed, Commander of the 1 Brigade Nigerian Army, has delivered a resolute message to the combined troops. He urged them to take decisive action against anyone seeking to disrupt the peace in the state, particularly in its capital, Gusau. This call to action was made on Monday, September 18, 2023, during the Commander’s address to the combined troops as they conducted a show of force within Gusau.
Brigadier General Ahmed issued a stern warning to those contemplating causing unrest following the election petition judgment, advising them to leave immediately or face the consequences of their actions. He also encouraged the law-abiding citizens of the state to continue with their regular activities, assuring them that ample security measures had been put in place at critical locations, flashpoints, and trouble-prone areas in Gusau. He further urged the public to promptly report any suspicious gatherings or acts of violence to the security agencies.
General Ahmed provided additional reassurance to the people, stating that the 1 Brigade troops, along with the Nigerian Air Force, the Police, the Department of State Services, and all other security agencies within the Area of Responsibility, were actively participating in the show of force. Their collective aim was to assert and demonstrate their presence not only in Gusau but throughout the entirety of Zamfara state.
The Commander disclosed that similar shows of force were simultaneously being conducted in all the Local Government Areas within the state. These efforts were designed to boost the confidence of the populace and ensure a safe and secure environment both before and after the announcement of the 2023 Zamfara election petition verdict.
