Global leaders convene at COP28 in UAE to address climate challenges

Influential figures, including Malam Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, convened in Dubai to deliberate on pressing climate issues during the sidelines of the 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference, commonly known as COP28.

The distinguished participants, comprising Senator John Kerry, the Special US White House Presidential Envoy on Climate, and Mr. Brian Moynihan, Chief Executive Officer of the Bank of America, along with other global personalities, engaged in thoughtful discussions at a reception organized by the COP28 presidency and the Sustainable Markets Initiatives.

The event, held at the VIP Lounge in Dubai Exhibition Center North Hall, Blue Zone, Expo City, marked the opening of the Business and Philanthropy Climate Forum. Notable dignitaries in attendance included His Majesty, King Charles III, and His Highness Sheik Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The forum provided a platform for the exchange of ideas and strategies to address the escalating complexities of climate change. The discussions underscored the significance of global collaboration in finding sustainable solutions to mitigate the environmental challenges faced by nations worldwide.

Olufemi O. Soneye, Chief Corporate Communications Officer at NNPC Ltd., emphasized the importance of such high-level engagements in fostering global cooperation to tackle the critical issue of climate change.
