On the third day of the ongoing Conference of the Parties (COP28) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (#COP28), Nigeria’s President, His Excellency Mr. Bola Ahmed Tinubu, expressed Nigeria’s commitment to collaborate with global partners in implementing concrete measures to reduce methane and other non-CO2 greenhouse gases.

President Tinubu, addressing a high-level panel session focused on methane and other non-CO2 greenhouse gases, reassured key nations, including the United States, China, and the United Arab Emirates, of Nigeria’s dedication to supporting actionable initiatives in the fight against climate change.

“We are consolidating on gas export and usage domestically. I can assure you that we will be partners in progress to achieve renewable energy,” President Tinubu affirmed during the summit.

Distinguished speakers at the conference included the Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, the UAE Special Envoy for Climate Change, and the President of COP28, His Excellency, Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber. Notable international figures also graced the event, such as the United States Special Envoy on Climate, John Kerry, and the China Special Envoy for Climate Change, Xie Zhenhua.

The landmark occasion also witnessed the presence of key Nigerian figures, including the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd., Malam Mele Kyari, the Executive Vice President, Upstream, Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, and the Special Adviser on Energy to the Nigerian President, Olu Verheijen.

The collective commitment expressed at this high-profile summit underscores the global community’s shared responsibility in addressing the pressing issue of greenhouse gas emissions. As nations join forces to combat climate change, Nigeria affirms its role as a proactive partner in advancing renewable energy and environmental sustainability on the international stage.
