The General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 6 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Jamal Abdussalam, has assured the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) of continued collaboration between the two agencies. The assurance was given during a courtesy visit by the newly appointed Sector Commander of the FRSC RS6.1, Rivers Sector Command, Corps Commander Inyang E. Umoh, at the Headquarters of the 6 Division, Port Harcourt Barracks.
Major General Abdussalam highlighted the longstanding partnership between the Nigerian Army and the FRSC, noting that their cooperation has been instrumental in various initiatives. He cited the recent training of 29 soldiers as drivers at the Division’s Training School, a program made possible through the critical support of the FRSC. “We couldn’t have achieved this without the assistance of the FRSC,” Abdussalam remarked.
He also acknowledged the role of the FRSC in securing driver’s licenses for military personnel and their families, emphasizing that such contributions are highly valued.

The GOC reiterated the Nigerian Army’s commitment to collaborating with other security agencies, a mandate set forth by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja. He explained that the Army’s command philosophy is to transform the force into a well-trained, equipped, and highly motivated unit capable of fulfilling its constitutional responsibilities within a joint environment. This, he noted, involves close cooperation with other security agencies, including the FRSC, which he praised for its professionalism.
In his response, Corps Commander Inyang Umoh expressed gratitude for the support and collaboration the FRSC has received from the Nigerian Army, particularly from the 6 Division. He emphasized the historical ties between the FRSC and the Nigerian Army, recalling that the Nigerian Corps of Engineers was the first to organize a road safety campaign for road users in 1972, long before the establishment of the FRSC in 1988. Commander Umoh urged the Division to continue its support, describing the Nigerian Army as a critical stakeholder in road safety.
The meeting underscored the mutual respect and shared objectives between the Nigerian Army and the FRSC, with both parties committed to enhancing their collaborative efforts in the future.
