Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has assured families of the abducted students of Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Danko Wasagu Local Government Area, that the state government is fully committed to securing the safe return of their children.
According to his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity Yahaya Sarki, addressing journalists in Maga after a meeting with security agencies, traditional rulers, parents, and other stakeholders, the governor condemned the abduction, describing it as a tragic and unacceptable act.
Governor Idris said security operatives were working round the clock to rescue the 25 schoolgirls abducted during Monday’s attack, which also claimed the life of the school’s Vice Principal.
He noted that his visit to Maga was to personally assess the situation, console affected families, and restore public confidence.
“The unfortunate incident has already occurred, and we came to see things for ourselves. We met with the parents whose children were abducted to give them confidence and to assure them that we will do everything possible to ensure the safe rescue of their children,” he said.
He further urged parents and residents to remain calm, assuring them that security agencies were taking the necessary steps to bring the children home safely.
“That is the essence of coming to Maga—to support our people, give them encouragement, and strengthen their hope,” the governor added.
The state government reiterated its resolve to work closely with security agencies to ensure the perpetrators are apprehended.
