As President Bola Tinubu prepares to reshuffle his cabinet for improved governance, the Mandate Protection Vanguard (MPV) has called on him to prioritize experienced and skilled professionals for ministerial appointments.
In a statement signed by MPV Coordinator Comrade Gbenga Soloki and released on Thursday, the group emphasized the need for highly qualified Nigerians from across the six geopolitical zones to contribute to the administration’s success. Soloki noted that while political appointments are necessary, the country’s economic challenges require technocrats with expertise in key sectors.
“There are several qualified Nigerians who have excelled in both private and public sectors,” the statement read. “These individuals can add value and boost the administration’s credibility.”
The group proposed several candidates for consideration, starting with Prof. Bart Nnaji, a former Minister of Power and a professor of Electrical Engineering. Nnaji, who has extensive experience in the power sector, previously served as special adviser on power to the president and chaired the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
Another suggested candidate is Ojo Samuel Olukunle, a Harvard-certified public administrator with a background in public finance and policy implementation. Olukunle, a former permanent secretary and Chief of Staff in Lagos State, is credited with significant achievements in human capital development.
The MPV also recommended Senator Adeleke Mamora, a medical doctor and former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly. Mamora, who served as a senator and minister in the Buhari administration, was described as a “cool-headed professional” with extensive experience in both medicine and public service.
Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, the immediate past Governor of Kaduna State, was also highlighted. Known for his tenure as Director General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises and as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, El-Rufai holds a master’s degree in public administration from Harvard University and is considered a “cerebral politician” with a wealth of administrative experience.
Lastly, the group suggested Senator Shehu Sani, a pro-democracy activist and former senator from Kaduna State. Sani, who played a key role in Nigeria’s transition to democracy, was recognized for his legislative contributions and his deep understanding of the country’s challenges.
The MPV urged President Tinubu to consider these individuals for key positions in the upcoming cabinet reshuffle, emphasizing their potential to help navigate Nigeria through its economic and governance challenges.
