The House of Representatives is gearing up for the second edition of its Sectoral Debates/Dialogue, part of its periodic Policy Brief Series, scheduled for Tuesday, February 6th, 2024, focusing on the financial sector.
House Spokesman and Chairman of the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Rep. Akin Rotimi Jr highlighted this significant initiative.
He said key stakeholders slated to participate include the Minister of Finance, Minister of Budget and Planning, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and the Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).

Aligned with the legislative agenda’s “Agenda One: Strengthening Good Governance,” spearheaded by Rt. Hon. The dialogue series seeks to enhance legislative oversight of key Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) and promote smoother legislative-executive relationships for effective governance.
During the year’s plenary session’s resumption, Speaker Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, PhD, emphasized the House’s concern over the nation’s economic state, citing numerous obstacles hindering growth. He announced the resumption of Sectoral Briefs with MDAs, starting with engagement in the finance sector on February 6th, 2024, to evaluate the nation’s financial readiness for budget implementation.
Speaker Abbas emphasized alignment between the legislative and executive arms to ensure effective initiative implementation, aiming to contribute to sustainable economic growth and yield tangible results for Nigerians.
The Policy Brief Series, which began on November 21, 2023, with a focus on the Security sector, aims to address various sectors like Power and Agriculture in subsequent editions, providing lawmakers opportunities to address areas necessitating legislative interventions.
