IGP advises on safe protests in virtual meeting with Falana, take it back movement

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun held a virtual meeting with senior advocates Femi Falana (SAN) and Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa (SAN), along with key members of the Take It Back Movement. The discussion focused on the planned nationwide protest and ensuring public safety.

In a statement, Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said IGP Egbetokun underscored the importance of maintaining public order while respecting the constitutional right to peaceful assembly. He advised the group to collaborate with state police commissioners to ensure the protests are well-coordinated, safeguarding participants and the general public.

Emphasizing the dangers of unplanned street processions, the IGP urged the group to liaise with police and other security agencies to prevent potential risks. The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to protecting citizens’ rights and ensuring that public gatherings are safe and orderly.

The meeting concluded with a call for cooperation from all stakeholders to maintain a peaceful and secure environment during the protests.
