The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has strengthened the Nigeria Police Force’s Technical Intelligence Unit (TIU) with advanced technological tools and applications to enhance crime detection, prevention, and rapid response.
In a statement Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said as part of efforts to drive intelligence-led policing, the IGP also approved the rollout of comprehensive training programmes for TIU personnel. These trainings, aligned with global intelligence standards, are aimed at equipping officers with the necessary expertise to effectively operate the newly acquired systems.
The IGP noted that the dynamic nature of crime, both globally and domestically, demands consistent improvements in the Force’s approach to policing. He emphasized the importance of technology and intelligence as key tools in combating emerging security threats.
Recent operational breakthroughs—such as the arrest of a major arms trafficking syndicate active in Benue, Taraba, Adamawa, and Plateau States—were highlighted as clear outcomes of enhanced intelligence capabilities.
Reaffirming his commitment to proactive policing, the IGP assured Nigerians of the Force’s resolve to implement effective measures in preventing and responding to criminal activities nationwide.
