The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has strongly condemned the recent kidnapping of 20 medical students in Otukpo, Benue State.
The students were abducted while traveling to Enugu for the annual convention of the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students. Describing the incident as “appalling, callous, and unacceptable,” the IGP assured the public of the police force’s full commitment to securing the immediate rescue of the victims.
In a statement, Force Public Relations Officer Force Headquarters, Abuja ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said the IGP Egbetokun has ordered the rapid deployment of additional tactical operatives and resources to reinforce the Benue State Command. This includes the mobilization of specialized units from the Force Intelligence Bureau’s Special Tactical Squad (FID-STS) and the Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT), as well as the deployment of helicopters, drones, and advanced tactical vehicles. These measures are aimed at facilitating a swift and safe rescue operation.
The Nigeria Police Force stands in solidarity with the victims and their families during this difficult time, reaffirming its dedication to leaving no stone unturned in the pursuit of those responsible. The IGP reiterated the force’s determination to combat kidnapping and other criminal activities across the country.
In his appeal to the public, the IGP urged anyone with useful information or actionable intelligence that could assist in the ongoing investigation and rescue efforts to contact the nearest police station or reach out to the force through designated communication channels.
