Residents of Kukawa and Cross Kauwa communities in Borno State are now receiving essential medical services, thanks to a two-day outreach organized by the Nigerian Army following the successful liberation of Kukawa Town from terrorist control.
In a statment Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations, 19 Brigade Captain Innocent Oche Audu said troops of the 19 Brigade, alongside elements of Task Force Arege and Garere, provided medical consultations, treatment, and medication to over 1,000 residents, including women and children, during the outreach held from August 15-16, 2024.
He said this initiative, spearheaded by the Headquarters Sector 3 of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) and the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), is part of broader efforts to help the community rebuild after years of displacement due to terrorist attacks.
Brigadier General Shehu Ahmed, Commander of the 19 Brigade, emphasized that the medical outreach was designed to support the community’s resettlement efforts, address pressing health concerns, and complement the ongoing work of state and local authorities to restore normalcy. He reaffirmed the Brigade’s commitment to ensuring the security of the area with the backing of the Headquarters Theatre Command, MNJTF, and Sector 3 OPHK/MNJTF.
Kukawa Town, the headquarters of Kukawa Local Government Area, was liberated by 19 Brigade troops in June 2024 through a joint military operation. Since then, over 4,000 residents have returned to their ancestral homes, with more expected to follow.
During the event, Brigadier General Ahmed urged the community to cooperate with the military and other security agencies to achieve lasting peace in the region. The medical outreach was attended by key local figures, including the Chairman of Kukawa LGA, Hon. Abba Fugu, the LGA Secretary, and community leaders.
