IGP holds strategic meeting with senior police officers, confirms Arrest of 3,685 suspects in eight weeks

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, convened a strategic meeting with senior police officers including Deputy Inspectors General of Police, members of the Force Management Team, Assistant Inspectors General of Police, Commissioners of Police, and Tactical Commanders at the Force Headquarters, Abuja. During this session, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, reported notable achievements in mitigating criminal activities nationwide over an eight-week period since the last conference. These achievements included the arrest of 3,685 suspects, the rescue of 401 kidnapped victims, and the recovery of 216 firearms, 3,601 ammunition, and 82 vehicles.

Addressing the senior police management, the IGP expressed condolences for the tragic incident in Ohoro Forest, Ughelli North LGA of Delta State, where six officers were ambushed and killed during a Special Operation. He assured that significant progress had been made in the investigation, with nine suspects apprehended and assisting in uncovering the circumstances surrounding the incident. The IGP reaffirmed the commitment to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.

Additionally, the IGP announced the disbursement of cheques amounting to Seven Billion, Two Hundred and Sixty-Three Million, Three Hundred and Ninety-One Thousand, Fifty-One Naira, and Seventy-Three Kobo (N7,263,391,051.73K) to Two Thousand, Five Hundred and Fourteen families of deceased police officers over the past nine months. This initiative underscores the Nigeria Police Force’s dedication to prioritizing the welfare of its personnel and their families.

Recognizing the sacrifices of officers, the IGP emphasized the Force’s focus on personnel welfare, including securing insurance claims and addressing pension concerns. The forthcoming Police Awards and Commendations Ceremony, scheduled for April 15th, 2024, at the Congress Hall, Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, will honor officers who have displayed bravery and dedication to duty.

Addressing housing challenges faced by officers, the NPF Housing Summit, slated for April 22nd–23rd, 2024, aims to provide solutions and launch the Police Fund. Furthermore, the Nigeria Police Green Initiative, aligned with climate justice goals, seeks to enhance operational capacity through renewable energy and community outreach.

The IGP charged the senior police managers with fulfilling the Force’s constitutional mandate to ensure the safety and security of the nation. Stressing the pivotal role of police leadership in upholding integrity, professionalism, and excellence, he called for concerted efforts to overcome challenges and discharge duties with dedication and diligence.

In conclusion, the IGP urged all stakeholders to maintain their commitment to policing with integrity, professionalism, and excellence to address challenges and safeguard the safety and security of Nigeria.
