The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has initiated the presentation of cheques totaling over 2 billion Naira to 613 beneficiaries, comprising next-of-kin of deceased police officers.
According to Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, this ceremony, held at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Thursday, November 16th, 2023, marked the distribution of funds for Group Life Assurance and the IGP Family Welfare Scheme for the policy years 2020/2021, 2021/2022, and 2022/2023.
Addressing the significance of the event, the IGP underscored the administration’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of all officers, including those in active service, retired, and those who have passed away. He expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased officers, recognizing the sacrifices made by these fallen heroes.
The IGP disclosed that the total amount disbursed for the two policies is Two Billion, Two Hundred and Seventy-Six Million, One Hundred and Ten Thousand, Nine Hundred and Sixty-Six Naira, Eighteen Kobo (N2,276,110,966.18k). This marks the third occasion of such presentations since the IGP assumed office.
During his address, the IGP emphasized that the issuance of these cheques is a tangible manifestation of the administration’s commitment to acknowledging and supporting the families of deceased officers, providing financial relief to ease their burdens.
The IGP commended the exceptional efforts of the Force Insurance Unit and collaborating insurance companies for their tireless work in ensuring the prompt settlement of claims to deserving beneficiaries. He extended sincere gratitude to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for prioritizing police welfare and ensuring the timely release of the premium for the Insurance Scheme.
The Inspector General of Police reiterated the commitment of the Force to the welfare of its personnel, both serving and retired, and their families. The presentation of these cheques stands as a testament to this commitment.
