A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, has reaffirmed his intention to contest the 2027 Edo South Senatorial seat, dismissing reports of his withdrawal from the race.
In a statement addressed to political leaders and supporters across Edo South, Ize-Iyamu expressed appreciation for the purchase of his Senate Nomination and Expression of Interest forms by loyalists, describing the gesture as humbling and deeply significant.
He noted that many of those who contributed to securing the forms were the same individuals who had earlier encouraged him to join the race, adding that their actions underscored a shared commitment to the aspiration.
“I have not withdrawn from this race, and I will not withdraw. Any report suggesting otherwise is false and should be disregarded,” he said.

The former governorship candidate emphasised his determination to provide what he described as effective and impactful representation for Edo South in the National Assembly, stressing the need for stronger advocacy and presence in national decision-making.
He also commended the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, citing the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, as well as the developmental efforts of Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo.
Ize-Iyamu stated that his ambition is to complement ongoing efforts by strengthening ties between Edo South and the Federal Government while attracting greater opportunities to the district.
Highlighting issues of equity, he pointed out that Orhionmwon Local Government Area has not produced a senator for decades, calling for inclusiveness and balance in political representation.
He expressed confidence that with continued support from stakeholders and constituents, his senatorial ambition would culminate in victory.
