Former President Goodluck Jonathan has commended the Azikel Refinery project in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, describing it as an important step towards strengthening Nigeria’s local refining capacity and energy security.
Jonathan made the remarks after visiting the refinery, where he inspected the progress of the project and commended the management of Azikel Group for its commitment to expanding domestic refining capacity.
The former President particularly praised the President of Azikel Group, Dr. Eruani Azibapu CFR, for his efforts to advance the project and contribute to the development of Nigeria’s energy sector.
Jonathan said investments such as the Azikel Refinery, alongside other private-sector initiatives including the Dangote Refinery, could contribute to greater local content, self-reliance and energy security.
He expressed optimism that the completion of the project would boost the domestic supply of refined petroleum products and reduce reliance on imported fuel.
The former President wished the Azikel team continued success as it works towards completing the refinery and bringing its expected benefits to the Nigerian economy.
