Former Nigeria President Goodluck Jonathan has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of His Holiness, Pope Francis, extending condolences to the Nigerian Catholic Church and the global Christian community.

In his tribute, Jonathan described the late pontiff as a religious leader whose influence transcended the pulpit, reaching into critical spheres of global humanity.

He praised Pope Francis for his unwavering advocacy for peace, justice, and equality throughout the world.

“Pope Francis’ death, coming just a day after he delivered his Easter sermon, is a testament to his lifelong commitment to service and devotion to faith,” Jonathan noted. “Even in his final days, he remained steadfast in his mission of preaching peace, love, and justice.”

The former president called on people of faith to reflect on the vacuum left by the Pope’s passing, while drawing inspiration from his life of humility, spiritual dedication, and global service.

“May his life and legacy continue to inspire us all,” Jonathan concluded.
