The Kaduna State House of Assembly has recommended an investigation into former Governor Nasir El-Rufai for alleged diversion of public funds and money laundering. This recommendation follows the findings of an ad hoc committee set up by the assembly, which presented its report on Wednesday.
Henry Zacharia, chairman of the committee, stated that the investigation revealed that many loans obtained by El-Rufai’s administration were used for purposes other than those for which they were intended. Zacharia emphasized that numerous projects and loans during El-Rufai’s tenure did not follow due process.
El-Rufai, who served as governor from 2015 to 2023, is under scrutiny for financial mismanagement during his administration. In April, the Kaduna assembly inaugurated a 13-member committee to investigate loans, grants, and project implementations from his time in office.
The assembly also called for the prosecution of certain commissioners and officials who served under El-Rufai, holding them accountable for their roles in the alleged financial misconduct.
