In a significant victory for Nigerian security forces, notorious terrorist leader Buhari Alhaji Halidu, known as Buharin Yadi, was neutralized along with dozens of his fighters during a fierce battle in the Idasu forest, situated at the Kaduna-Katsina border.
According to Overseeing Commissioner, Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Kaduna State Samuel Aruwan, the operation, led by the troops of Sector 6 Operation Whirl Punch under the command of Major General MLD Saraso, targeted the terrorist group following intelligence reports of their movements from the Samunaka area in Katsina State. Upon advancing to the area, the troops discovered the aftermath of recent criminal activity, including destroyed settlements and killed cattle.
A fierce engagement ensued at Hayin Almajiri, resulting in the elimination of at least 36 bandits. The death of Buharin Yadi, who had been terrorizing Northern Nigeria for over a decade, marks a significant milestone in the fight against banditry. Known for large-scale cattle rustling, arms trading, and drug trafficking, Yadi’s gang had been responsible for countless atrocities across multiple states, including Kaduna, Katsina, Niger, and Zamfara.
Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State praised the troops for their bravery and efficiency, commending Major General Saraso’s leadership. He assured continued support for the security forces and encouraged citizens to report any suspicious individuals, especially those with gunshot injuries, to the authorities.
The Kaduna State Security Operations Room remains operational 24/7 to receive such reports. Meanwhile, special operations against bandits are ongoing in the region, with a call for public cooperation in providing supportive information to the security forces.
