The Kebbi State Government has expressed grave concern regarding the killing of two customs officers while on patrol by suspected bandits. Following his attendance at the funeral prayer for the deceased, which took place at Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital in Birnin Kebbi on Thursday, Governor Nasir Idris commented on the tragic incident, deeming it a distressing occurrence.
The deceased individuals are identified as Abdullahi Mohammed, a Customs Assistant II, and A. K. Shehu, an Inspector Customs. The unfortunate incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, around 1:30 a.m., on the Dakingari-Koko Road while the officers were on patrol.
After assaulting the patrolling team, the suspected bandits absconded with one of the deceased officers’ rifles, an AK-47. The governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Alhaji Yakubu Bala-Tafida, offered prayers for the departed souls, entreating Almighty Allah for their forgiveness and to grant them Jannatul Firdaus.
Governor Nasir Idris extended condolences on behalf of the state government to the immediate families of the deceased as well as the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).
