Kiribo students disown planned ‘Free Kanu’ protest linked to Sowore

Some concerned students from Kiribo, the hometown of activist Omoyele Sowore in Ese Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State, have distanced themselves from the proposed “Free Nnamdi Kanu” protest reportedly being championed by Sowore and scheduled for Monday, October 20.

In a statement issued on Sunday in Akure by their coordinator, Comrade Biodun Ogunwuyi, the students appealed to Sowore to call off the planned demonstration and allow the law to take its course.

They expressed fears that the protest “will do no one any good,” warning that it could degenerate into violence, destruction, and hardship for innocent Nigerians.

“Unknown individuals may hijack the protest to unleash mayhem on the public, leading to casualties and loss of property,” the statement cautioned.

The group urged Sowore to act with restraint and respect judicial and security advisories reportedly restricting public demonstrations on the said date.

“We, the students of Kiribo, dissociate ourselves completely from this planned protest and appeal to our brother to reconsider his decision in the interest of peace and public safety,” the statement concluded.
