Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has expressed his deep sympathy to the Nigerian Army and the community of Eruku in Ekiti Local Government following the passing of Major Segun Abiodun Oni. Major Oni lost his life during an anti-banditry operation in Niger State.
Major Oni, a distinguished and honorable army officer, tragically lost his life on August 13, 2023, alongside fellow soldiers while leading a military mission to eradicate banditry in parts of Niger State. Throughout his career, he held significant positions such as the Platoon Commander of the 72 Special Forces Battalion, Company Second in Command of the Armed Forces Special Forces Battalion, and Second in Command of the Defence Headquarters Special Operations Forces Battalion. His extensive training took place across various military institutions in Nigeria, the United Kingdom, the United States, Belarus, and South Africa. He was honored with numerous military accolades in recognition of his exceptional performance, unwavering discipline, and diligent efforts. Notable among these awards are the River Niger Star, Golden Jubilee Medal, Centenary Medal, and General Operations Medal.
According to Rafiu Ajakaye, his Chief Press Secretary, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq extends his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family of the brave officer, as well as to the entire Nigerian Army and the Nigerian Defence Headquarters. The loss of Major Segun Abiodun Oni is a significant blow not only to the nation as a whole but also to Kwara State, where he hailed from.
The Governor offers his prayers to God, seeking solace for Major Oni’s departed soul and providing strength and comfort to his grieving family and all those affected by his passing.
